Projects

The following are projects that I am working on that are far enough along to warrant mentioning.

srchParty

Status: private beta

srchParty is a lost and found service that reunites people with their lost belongings. The idea for this came from a desire to enable people to easily return on of my lost items to me without sharing my personal information.

The basic premise is that users can register their items with the service, throw a QR code sticker on their item, and feel better about being reunited with that item in the event that it is lost.

For more information about it, check out srchParty.com or devlog.srchparty.com.

yajigo

Status: in development

Yajigo, from the Chinese word yaji, is a tool that allows users to share their availability for live chats, whether online or in person.

This project came from my desire to develop and nurture a community of people through engaging and thought provoking discussions LIVE. The internet if full of "connections" and "friends", but for me they are shallow and unfulfilling. It's way too easy to drop a comment somewhere with little to no regard for the recipient.

If you like to snipe from the shadows, this isn't for you.

You will see this on all my sites, just look for it in a sidebar, header, or footer.

simple-webs

Status: available

Simple-Webs was my desire to spin up really small websites easily and cheaply.

The impetus for this project was my monthly Digital Ocean bill and thing that there's got a be a cheaper way to host simple websites.

I've used similar offerings, but they seemed both limiting and complex at the same time. This one is pretty flexible in that it is based on containers. So pretty much any container you want to spin up, it will serve up.

This blog, Yajigo, and the Horde Defense websites are all running on Simple-Webs.

simple-blogs

Status: available

Simple-Blogs is exactly that. It's a simple blog engine that dynamically creates blog entries and pages from markdown.

The impetus for this project was that I felt other options like WordPress were complete overkill for simple blogs. Storing content in a database also seemed unnecessary for my needs. For me, there's no reason to store it in anything other than plain text. As I use md for all my notes, I decided this was a simple format to use.

This is not a CMS, it's a simple blog engine.

This project gave birth to both Simple-Webs and Yajigo.

horde defense

Status: in development

Strictly speaking, this isn't MY project, it's one of my sons' project. One that I have been working with him on conceptualizing. But it's something I am enjoying and it's offering me an opportunity to learn about game development.

The project is being created with Godot.
